Things You Should Know Before Getting a New Pool Pump

Manuel Douglas

Installing a swimming pool in your residential or commercial property is one of the best things you can do. Pools give you and your loved ones the chance to enjoy the outdoors while swimming. However, you cannot have a great time if your pool doesn't have an ideal pump, and that's the reason why experts recommend that you get one that suits your requirements.

The market offers different types of pool pumps today, something that makes the pump selection process difficult. Fortunately, you can always buy the right pump if you know some of the key aspects to consider before making a choice. This post will be highlighting some of these factors.

Speed

One of the primary things that determine the performance of a pool pump is speed. Generally, the pumps come in high, medium, and low speed. So, the faster the pump is the more power you'll save when using it, and vice versa. Speed is further divided into three forms – single, dual, and variable speed. Single-speed pumps have a one-speed setting (high), and can't be increased or decreased. Double speed pumps have two speed selections (high and low), which allow you to save energy when you aren't using the pool. Lastly, the market also offers variable speed pool pumps that have permanent magnetic motors. The motor's rotor isn't rotated with electricity like the dual and single-speed pumps, and the pumps are quiet, more productive, and durable.

Pool size

Another factor you must consider when choosing your swimming pool pump is the size of the pool. Pools come in various sizes and designs, so if you have a large pool, you'll obviously require a big pump. A good rule of thumb is to calculate the gallons per minute, a factor that determines the device's flow rate each hour, to choose an ideal pump. Note that big pumps will consume more energy when pumping water out of or into a swimming pool. Usually, the motor size determines the power of the pump, so make sure you make your selection carefully to avoid making costly mistakes. Make sure you pick a pump that fits the size of the pool to get value on your investment.

Price

Swimming pool pumps come in different brands and features, and these aspects determine the buying price. After all, the goal is to get a pump that meets your needs at a reasonable cost. Consider getting quotations for the pump that meets your needs from different merchants and pick the device that offers value. Some companies even provide delivery and installation service to help their clients save money.
